What kind of paper is that? And How do you get your flowers to stay are they glued or Modge podged or anything? I want to make one but I’m not quite sure how to start!

Hi Kara,

When I started this project I decided to not overthink anything, and just use the stuff I already had. So I chose a notebook from my shelf (it happened to have brown paper pages) and I’ve used a variety of adhesives which will probably not last 100 years like some of the better quality stuff out there.

My aim was to get it done, rather than create an heirloom. Some pages were done with school-grade clear glue, and for other pages I used gel medium (you know, the stuff you mix with acrylic paint to thin it out without changing the colour of the pigment).

I carefully dry the pages with a craft heat gun because I’m impatient and don’t want to wait for them to air dry. If you do this, be really careful to hold the gun away from the page so that you don’t burn the leaves/flowers or bubble the glue.

Having said all that, the oldest pages in my book are a couple of years old now and they still look just like the photos above. Sorry to all the pro, old-school flower-pressers out there who just had a heart attack when they read about my process!
