Threaded Comments for Wordpress?
Elizabeth February 9th, 2008
I am pulling my hair out trying to find a plugin that will let me have threaded comments here. Some of them appear to do half the job, but I’m yet to find the solution to my problem.
So far I’ve tried Brian’s Threaded Comments and AJAXed Wordpress. I had some success with the latter, but it stripped away all my styling and I had more trouble modifying the template than I usually do.
(Besides, both of these plugins actually do nested comments rather than threaded… although I’d settle for either right now.)
I am beyond frustrated at this point. Are you using something simple and brilliant at your blog? Tell me how!
- Blogging , Website news
- Comments(4)

If you want threaded comments as in showing only the top comments in a “thread” first and then allowing the user to load the replies to it, AJAXed Wordpress can do it. (You would have to enable “hide comment children” and set the “depth” to 1.)
If you are looking for threaded comments like email list-servs, aWP doesn’t do that. Yet.
As for the styling, aWP uses template files that you can edit and basically copy and paste your theme’s template into (in pieces.) If you are still interested in getting it up-and-running, I’d be happy to help. If not, thanks for trying aWP.
Wow, I didn’t expect instant help from the author of the plugin I mentioned!
I would love your help in getting this running, as I am completely stuck. I’ll send you an email.
Thank you!
Hi again Elizabeth,
I was looking around google at all the places “AJAXed WordPress” appeared and I re-found your website. Since you last tested AWP, it has advanced rather quickly in functionality. One of the most recent versions is aimed at making threaded comments much easier to use. You may want to try it out again.
(If you do, try enabling threaded comments module then select “simple threaded comments” on the comments tab of the AWP admin panel and see how it works out on your theme.)
