I’m sure most of us are already aware that the world kicks ass because Rainn Wilson is in it, but did you know that he’s also behind the website SoulPancake?
What is SoulPancake? Well, it’s more of a mission than a Web site…
We want to make discussions about Spirituality, Creativity, and Philosophy cool again. Were they ever cool? I have no idea. But it seems like a good idea. We want to engage the user to “Chew on Life’s Big Questions”™. (I was kidding about the ™ symbol; you can use that phrase however you want. Even to sell frozen taquitos.) Where do you go on the Interwebs if you want an irreverent, fun, and profound take on God and Art and the Soul and Faith and Beauty? Fox.com? Maybe. But maybe also here at SoulPancake.com.
We provide some rockin’ content (interviews, blogs, challenges, contests, features, and more), but it’s really all about having YOU—the SoulPancake community—bring this site to life. Say what’s on your mind. Be real. Talk about WHY WE’RE HERE. And if I say something that offends you, let me have it.
Just remember: Life is a rich, weird, difficult experience. So join us as we go on the spiritual and artistic journey that is SoulPancake.

One of my favourite discoveries from SoulPancake was the following video. I know “flashmobbing” has been done a thousand times already, but there was something particularly awesome about this little stunt at Grand Central Station.
Click here to read Rainn’s blurb about the video, and the discussion that follows in the comments. Who’d have thought Dwight Schrute would be such an insightful guy?
Last Thursday afternoon our phone carrier emailed us a special promotion to upgrade to the iphone. It was a one-night-only deal for existing customers, and was so impressive that we signed up on the spot. Tomorrow our two beauties will be delivered to me at work, and I may or may not give one of them to Tim!
We were pretty happy to be offered the deal, because we’re still a long way off from finishing our original 24-month plans. I managed to negotiate a brand new contract that costs the same as we’re already paying – even including the cost of the iphone installments. The data and call package is brilliant, and we’re not spending anything extra!
So naturally I have spent the entire weekend browsing the iTunes store for apps. I’m pretty excited about Cellar by Airsource, which catalogs your wine collection by brand, region, vintage, grape, price and rating. When you drink a bottle, either delete it from your collection or move it to the ‘Garage’ so that you can remember it later. How great will this be next time I’m at Dan Murphys, and blinded by all the pretty labels?
I’ve downloaded a stack of apps for somebody who doesn’t even have her iphone yet. However, I need a little help identifying which apps are “essentials”, as iphones weren’t even on my radar 3 days ago! If you have an app that you love, leave me a comment!
I can’t wait to add this phone to my little collection of Apple devices. One more sleep…
One of my guilty little pleasures lately has been the fabulous Awkward Family Photos blog. Any website that makes me feel better about my own weirdo family has got to be good!
Every day is an opportunity to learn, to grow as a person and discover new truths about ourselves and the world around us.
Today I learned two very important facts.
1. There is a possibility that I am the sort of person who would get out of bed at 3am to watch a Michael Jackson memorial service take place on the other side of the world, even though it will almost definitely be shown again at a respectable time. (note: this suspicion will not be confirmed until approximately 2:59am tomorrow); and
2. Hedgehogs have EARS!
See more pictures here, if you can stand the cuteness.
Publicity images have finally emerged from the much anticipated Alice in Wonderland. I can’t even begin to explain how much I am looking forward to seeing what Tim Burton will do with this!
I didn’t think it was possible, but the images have probably doubled my excitement about this movie.
We already know that Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter and Danny Elfman are the perfect team, but they’re also perfectly cast for this movie. I guess when you’re Tim Burton, you go looking for a movie that will work with your assets, rather than the other way around.
There are more images at USA Today. Go get excited for March 5, 2010!
