This morning before work I spotted some balloons floating over my suburb. They weren’t directly over my house like they were last week, so I was able to shoot them from a more traditional angle. What a perfect day to be floating above this busy city.
Just posting one photo today, as this shot best captured the peaceful morning. You can click the photo to see a larger version.
These beauties floated right over our house this morning, while I was getting ready for work. Tim spotted them when he went out to put my coffee in the car (I really do love that boy) and I raced out on the driveway to catch these shots.
I can’t help it – whenever I see them I am completely mesmerised.
And speaking of balloons, I named this post after the song by The Civil Wars. It comes from a spectacular album called Barton Hollow and I might be a little bit in love with them right now.
If you have to be home sick from work, the best time to do it is on a chilly Winter day like this.
This morning we woke up to the bedroom windows being covered in condensation, and at 3.30pm it still hasn’t evaporated – even though the sun coming out! I am not-so-secretly in love with this kind of weather, especially since I get to watch it from my warm beanbag in front of the heater.
This pretty little arrangement hangs in the bay window of our bedroom. It seems almost criminal to shoot it in black & white because of the beautiful blue colour of the glass, but I thought the contrast in this version was striking.
The sideboard in my dining room holds a little collection of things I love.
From left to right: A photograph of Tim and I with his mum, aunt and cousin / A painting of a pear, made for me by Tim’s step-dad (the fruit sticker has a shamrock and my date of birth, as my birthday is on St Patrick’s Day) / A pear shaped candle from my aunt and uncle / A framed print of the Brighton beach huts.
The sideboard itself is pretty special to me, too. It’s made from Tasmanian oak, and my Dad had it made when he and Mum were first married. It’s been in my family for as long as I have been alive, and now it belongs to me!
Have you inherited any precious family heirlooms? When my Gran passed away I chose a few really special things to keep, and now they are treasures. I’m taking a photo every day in August, so maybe I’ll share some of them here!
Instagram may be favourite iPhone app of all time. However, if I had one complaint it would be that people without iPhones (or without the app) can’t participate!
I recently discovered a service called Webstagram which creates a web based feed of your Instagram submissions, and even allows comments via its web interface. You can also use it to add somebody’s feed to your RSS reader if you can’t use the app to aggregate posts. I probably don’t have a need for it myself, but it is pretty nifty for those who wish they could join in!
I’m looking for new people to follow, so if you’re an addict like me leave a comment with your username. In the meantime I’ll try to post my favourite photos here from time to time.
I’ve just been sifting through my photos from our holiday to Hobart, Tasmania in September. Some of the prettiest photos came from Mt Wellington, on a day when it was covered in snow.
It was the second-coldest I’d ever been, and it was wonderful.
